Sarah Friend, MD is triple board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and oncology and is distinguished in the treatment of breast cancer. Currently, she is a community oncologist at Phoebe Putney Memorial Medical Center, where she plays a vital role in providing high-quality cancer care to patients.
Previously, Dr. Friend served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine from 2016 to 2024. During her eight years at Emory, she was also a faculty member at the Winship Cancer Institute, where she contributed to patient care, research, and medical education. Her tenure at Emory adds to her credibility as a respected leader in oncology.
Dr. Friend’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University in 2006, followed by a Medical Degree from Florida State University College of Medicine in 2010. She completed her residency in internal medicine at AdventHealth Orlando from 2010 to 2013 and pursued a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine from 2013 to 2016.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Friend is passionate about helping patients navigate the complexities of cancer care. To further this mission, she launched MyFriendMd.com, a cancer coaching business designed to provide patients with personalized guidance and support outside of a clinical setting.
She holds board certifications in internal medicine and oncology and maintains active memberships in professional organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Medical Association.
