Publicly, Mariya is deeply involved in threat and violence risk management, offering training, assessment, and consultation. She is the only Certified Threat Manager psychologist in the state of Colorado through the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals. Mariya provides expert threat assessment consultation to local schools, universities, businesses, local law enforcement, FBI, and Homeland Security.

Lakewood, Colorado - Dr. Mariya Dvoskina, a distinguished Police and Public Safety Psychologist at Nicoletti-Flater Associates (NFA), has been at the forefront of providing essential counseling and crisis intervention services to first responders and their families for nearly a decade. With a wealth of experience and expertise in stress, trauma, anxiety, and depression, Dr. Dvoskina is a beacon of support and guidance for those in need.

Specializing in adult individual therapy, crisis intervention & de-escalation, marital and couples therapy, peer support supervision, post critical incident response, suicide prevention, threat assessment and management, as well as violence prevention and intervention, Dr. Dvoskina's dedication to the mental well-being of first responders is unwavering. Her role as the NFA emergency response coordinator underscores her passion for crisis response and trauma intervention, ensuring that those who serve our communities receive the care they deserve.

A first-generation immigrant and bilingual speaker, Dr. Dvoskina’s personal journey informs her professional practice. Having developed close ties within Colorado communities, she brings a unique perspective to her work. Her educational background includes undergraduate training in psychology from CU Boulder, followed by graduate degrees in Master of Arts and Doctor of Psychology from the University of Denver. Prior to her academic pursuits, she gained valuable experience as a correctional officer within juvenile offender settings, shaping her culturally competent approach to first responder wellness..

Dr. Dvoskina’s commitment to excellence is reflected in her numerous professional affiliations, including the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association Division 18, Police and Public Safety Section, the Fire Service Psychology Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police: Psychological Services Section, the Society for Police and Criminal Psychology, the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, and the International Public Safety Association. 

Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Dvoskina has earned several notable certifications, including Psychological First Aid (2016), FEMA Incident Response (2017), and Diplomate status from the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress (2019). She is also a member of the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. She completed training as a Hostage Negotiator with the National Tactical Officers Association in 2022, underscoring her expertise in the field. 

Recognizing the importance of trauma-informed organizational support, Dr. Dvoskina actively engages in agency consultation, training, and peer support supervision. She is dedicated to promoting responder wellness through various initiatives.

Violence prevention is an another area of passion and expertise for Dr. Dvoskina. Currently, she is the only psychologist in Colorado who is also a Certified Threat Manager through the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP). Dr. Dvoskina supports violence prevention efforts within schools, universities, workplaces and law enforcement agencies through training, consultation and case management. She is also active within ATAP and is the current Vice President of the Rocky Mountain Chapter.

Dr. Dvoskina has contributed to the field through authoring book chapters and peer-reviewed articles, and has been prominently featured in numerous periodicals focused on first responder issues. She credits much of her success to her mentor, Dr. John Nicoletti, a pioneering leader in police and public safety psychology. Dr. Nicoletti’s guidance and mentorship have been instrumental in shaping her career and helping her achieve her professional accomplishments.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Dvoskina finds joy in cooking (and eating!), spending time outdoors in the beautiful Colorado landscape, and is an avid dog lover.
