Denise embarked on her educational path with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southern Adventist University in 1986. Psychiatric nursing or mental health nursing is the appointed position of a nurse who specializes in mental health and cares for people of all ages experiencing mental illnesses or distress. In the United States, a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse trained to provide a wide range of mental health services to patients and families in a variety of settings. PMHNPs diagnose, conduct therapy, and prescribe medications for patients who have psychiatric disorders, medical organic brain disorders or substance abuse problems. They are licensed to provide emergency psychiatric services, psychosocial and physical assessment of their patients, treatment plans, and patient care. They may also serve as consultants or as educators for families and staff.

Denise’s commitment to charitable and philanthropic efforts shines through her involvement with various academic institutions and healthcare organizations. She served as a Volunteer Clinical Faculty-Preceptor for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psy. NP) students at the University of Cincinnati and the University of South Alabama, providing valuable guidance and mentorship. Similarly, she extended her expertise to Psy. DNP students at the University of South Florida and the University of Florida, fostering the development of future healthcare professionals.

In addition to her academic contributions, Denise generously volunteered as a Psychiatric ARNP Provider at Shepherd’s Hope Clinic, further demonstrating her dedication to improving mental health services in the community.
