Vision is one of the most precious senses and should only be trusted to the best, which is where Dr. Porias comes in. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist who treats conjunctivitis (pink eye), allergic conjunctivitis, eye infections, macular degeneration, cataracts, eye pain, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and other vision issues. He also performs routine eye exams and LASIK surgery.

He opened his private practice in Houston, Texas in 1975 as the North Loop Eye Center, a full-service facility dedicated to good vision and eye health. Today, he practices with Houston Eye Associates and sees patients at the offices in Cypress, Katy, and North Loop, Texas.

Houston Eye Associates is the largest ophthalmology practice in Texas with a team of 57 board-certified ophthalmologists with advanced fellowship and specialty training in the field of ophthalmology. In addition to its physicians who cover all areas of ophthalmological care, Houston Eye Associates has 28 locations.

Pertaining to his educational background, Dr. Porias graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. Upon graduation, he practiced in Missouri and taught ophthalmology at the stated educational venue.

The doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Osteopathic Boards of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, a joint organization that provides board certification to qualified DOs who specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the eye (ophthalmologists) and to qualified DOs who specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ears, nose, and throat (otolaryngologists).

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

With a passion for his profession, Dr. Porias contributes his time and expertise to providing medical and surgical treatment for people in underprivileged areas. His mission work has taken him to Mexico, Central America (Belize), and El Salvador.
