Get to know Colorectal Surgeon Dr. Jeremy M. Drake, who serves patients in Florida.

As a board-certified colorectal surgeon, Dr. Drake has advanced fellowship training in robotic surgical techniques for addressing colon and rectal cancers. He is particularly interested in the screening and treatment of colon and rectal cancers, pelvic floor disorders, and benign anorectal diseases, including best practices for the management of hemorrhoids and fistula.

Leading the field in colorectal care, he can be found on staff at the Center for Colon & Rectal Surgery with offices in Kissimmee and Celebration, Florida. “My philosophy is to manage patients and their expectations in an open and collaborative way. I want my patients to feel as though I care about them as I would a member of my own family and don’t just look at them as a disease process” as stated by Dr. Drake.

The colorectal surgeons at the Center for Colon & Rectal Surgery are trained in minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery for the colon and rectum. Each physician has faculty appointments and is responsible for the education of medical students, residents, fellows, and visiting doctors. In 2010, together with Florida Hospital, the Center for Colon & Rectal Surgery founded an ACGME-accredited fellowship in colon and rectal surgery.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Drake received his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. He completed his internship in general surgery at Vanderbilt University and his residency in general surgery at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile. This was followed by a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Colon & Rectal Clinic of Orlando.

With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, the doctor is board-certified in the colon and rectal surgery by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties that issues certificates for practitioners of colorectal surgery.

Moreover, he is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

In order to stay up to date in his field, Dr. Drake remains a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the Florida Medical Association.

Colorectal surgery is a field in medicine dealing with disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon. The field is also known as proctology, but this term is now used infrequently within medicine and is most often employed to identify practices relating to the anus and rectum in particular. Colorectal surgeons specialize in the preoperative, operative, and postoperative care of patients with colorectal disorders. They have comprehensive knowledge about general surgery and in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon.

In addition to being an award-winning resident physician, Dr. Drake is a former Division I student-athlete, and Academic All American. He has previously devoted significant time to volunteering efforts within and beyond his community, including providing medical care to underserved people in Rwanda and Birmingham, Alabama.

A devoted husband, Dr. Drake and his wife are the proud parents of two children. He is a soccer fan and season ticket holder for the Orlando City Soccer Club. He also plays soccer recreationally as well as disc golf in his free time.
