Dr. Edward Lawrence Jones OD, HIS Bio
Edward "Larry" Jones attended the University of Washington, Seattle, from 1975 through 1981 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Black History/Ethnic Studies with a Minor in Anthropology. Jones taught Black History with his father, Dr. Edward Louis Jones, an author and professor Jones played football for the University of Washington Huskies. Jones received a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry from the Pacific University College of Optometry in 1985. He was Washington state board certified in 1992 as a Hearing Instrument Specialist. He is a member of the International Hearing Society, the American Optometric Association and served on the AOA Hall of Fame committee and AOA/AOSA Grants committee. A member of Optometric Physicians of Washington and is on the Diversity, Inclusion, and Access Task Force.
Dr. Jones has been a member of the National Optometric Association (NOA) for 40 years. Dr. Jones is the Immediate Past President of the NOA and received the NOA Optometrist of the Year 2016. Dr. Jones received the Kamelia Massih Prize for a Distinguished Optometrist at Pacific University in 2017. He served on the Pacific University DEI task force. In 2022, he received the AOA President's Award for distinguished service to optometry. Dr. Jones worked at the King County Juvenile Detention center for three years and examined over 300 juvenile offenders. He was on a team that changed Washington State Law and will now make it mandatory to test children at the near-point vision in all Washington schools. Dr. Jones also works with veterans and the homeless that can't afford eye care in Washington and donates time and glasses to the underserved. Jones's ancestral background, African American,Irish, English Seminole, and Cherokee, created a passion for serving the indigenous communities. As a youth, he spent time with the Makah Tribe. In addition, he has one of the largest Medicaid/DSHS practices in Washington state.
