As a leading expert in opioid-sparing anesthesia, he has been involved in efforts to reduce opioid use in surgery, including participating in webinars for the Office of the White House Office of National Drug Policy (ONDCP) and co-authoring key guidelines. He has also served on the editorial board for the U.K. and European Resuscitation Council’s Advanced Life Support for 15 years.

In addition to his work on opioid reduction, Dr. Scott has conducted research on the long-term effects of acute kidney injury and the use of goal-directed hemodynamic algorithms to reduce its occurrence. He is also interested in the use of telemedicine and artificial intelligence in critical care, specifically the use of machine learning with physiological waveforms.
