Losing taste can result from a number of issues. Obviously Covid and other viruses have affected the tastebuds. Burning your tongue may also. • Can a root canal save a tooth?

Yes. Removing the infection is the first step in healing the tooth. Root canal’s would be necessary if there is an abscess due to infection within the tooth. After the root canal it is recommended to have a crown placed over the tooth to strengthen the tooth. The crown would keep the tooth strong and this saving the tooth. For the best outcome in saving the tooth you will have the root canal followed by a crown. I do root canal therapy as well as the final crown at General and Cosmetic Dentistry of Tampa give us call for treatment if you are in the area. READ MORE

I am an Invisalign Premier Dentist in Tampa General and Cosmetic Dentistry of Tampa and would be happy to provide you a consultation to discuss your options. READ MORE

  • Is there a difference between ceramic and porcelain crowns?

Traditional porcelain crowns and ceramic crowns are both produced with high quality materials. The biggest difference between the two is the time it takes to have a completed procedure. Porcelain crowns usually take multiple visits over the course of a couple weeks. During this time, you would be fitted with a temporary crown. For CEREC Same Day Ceramic crowns, the wait time is cut down drastically! Instead of waiting for weeks, you can walk out with a new permanent crown in one visit. • Is it normal for new dentures to hurt?

It is completely normal for new dentures to be uncomfortable and even cause severe pain. It is important to follow up with your dentist for adjustments shortly after the delivery of your denture to properly fit the denture. Typically for my patients, 3-6 adjustments are required over the first few months on full dentures to get the patient comfortable. READ MORE

  • Can I get implants with bone loss?

There are many different forms and degrees of bone loss. Ultimately it depends on the severity and location of the bone loss that could keep a patient from receiving implants. The best thing to do is to go to a dentist and have a few x-rays taken in the area of the desired implant and potentially a CBCT (3D x-ray). That will give you the ultimate answer. READ MORE

  • Can bonded teeth be whitened?

Bonding material will not respond to bleaching. The tooth structure around the bond can still be bleached but the bond will remain the same color. If you plan on bleaching, it is best to do so before having bonds placed to allow the practitioner to properly color match the bonding material. If the bonds are already in place, replacement would be the only option to change the color. READ MORE

  • Can you drink coffee after dental bonding?

No matter how small the procedure may be on any given tooth, post-op sensitivity is expected. Hot, cold, and heavy pressure all can create this sensitivity and it is best to avoid these stimulants for the first week to allow proper healing to occur. 1 week- 1 month is a normal time frame for this sensitivity to be present but can last longer if the healing process is blocked. So yes, you can drink coffee as long as its not overly hot or cold. However, if drinking the coffee causes sensitivity, it is best to avoid until the healing process is further along. READ MORE

  • How fast do antibiotics work for tooth abscess?

Great question. The typical rule is antibiotics take 2-3 days to start taking effect to where the patient notices some relief. However, understand that simply taking an antibiotic for an abscess does NOT fix the problem. It may temporarily provide relief but the underlying cause has likely not been resolved and a visit to your dentist is very important. READ MORE
