She then completed her residency in pediatrics at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada, in 2014. She successfully completed her fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at the University of Montreal in 2016.
Furthering her education, she completed her Master of Health Science degree in Epidemiology and one year of Advanced Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada in December of 2017.
With a focus on IBD, point-of-care ultrasound, and precision medicine, the doctor is board-certified in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.
Achieving professional competence, Dr. Chavannes is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP). She is also a member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology.
Her research focus has been on the evaluation of therapies in inflammatory bowel diseases. Her paper on “The Assessment of the use of therapeutic drug monitoring of Adalimumab during maintenance therapy in children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease” was presented both at ECCO (European Crohn’s & Colitis Organization) meeting in Barcelona in 2017 and at DDW in Chicago in May 2017. Her research interest is in finding non-invasive ways of monitoring disease activity in children with inflammatory bowel disease.
Pediatric gastroenterology developed as a subspecialty of pediatrics and gastroenterology. It is concerned with treating the gastrointestinal tract, liver, and pancreas of children from infancy until age eighteen. Pediatric gastroenterologists treat children from the newborn period through the teen years. They choose to make pediatric care the core of their medical practice, which provides extensive experience specifically in the care of infants, children, and teens.
