Dr. Carayannopoulos is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in trauma/acute injury and reconstructive surgery in the pediatric and adult population. She also has over a decade of experience with minimally invasive surgery, including arthroscopy of the upper and lower extremity and endoscopic carpal tunnel release surgery.

Currently, she practices at West Houston Orthopedics in Houston, Texas. West Houston Orthopedics is Houston and the Greater Houston area’s answer to complete orthopedic care. The team of professionals working there are committed to implementing innovative, value-added solutions to deliver high-quality, patient-centered healthcare.

It is Dr. Carayannopoulos’ knowledge and expertise that led to her selection, through a peer-reviewed process, as a prestigious AO Trauma faculty who helps teach residents and practicing orthopedic surgeons about state-of-the-art surgical techniques both nationally and internationally.

In addition to her technical and educational expertise as a physician, Dr. Carayannopoulos is a published researcher with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. She has also given many regional and national presentations, as well as has participated in research funded by the Department of Defense, addressing the management/treatment of long bone defects.

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Carayannopoulos received her Bachelor of Arts degree and her Bachelor of Science degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. She then went on to earn her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. After completing her residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, she received the “Scholastic Achievement Award,” the “Resident Research Award,” and the “Lockhart Award,” the most distinguished award for research during her residency.

Her postgraduate training included an AO International Fellowship in the Department of Trauma in Hannover, Germany and a fellowship in orthopedic trauma and upper extremity at Duke University Medical Center. She was recruited to UTMB in October of 2011 to serve as the Chief of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. During her tenure at UTMB, she served as the Fellowship Director of the AO International Trauma Fellowship, an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery & Rehabilitation, and as the Medical Director of the Orthopedic/Trauma Unit. What’s more, she established a robust clinical practice and was one of the busiest surgeons at UTMB before relocating her practice to the Houston area.

Dr. Carayannopoulos is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, which is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons. From 2012 to present, she has established a national reputation through peer nomination as the Texas State Representative to the Board of Councilors of the Southern Orthopedic Association.

On the subject of her clinical achievements, Dr. Carayannopoulous has received numerous patient compliments for quality outcomes in clinical care, and has developed excellent relationships with colleagues and referring physicians. This led to a regional reputation as one of Houston’s “Top Doctors” by H Magazine and Houstonia magazine from 2014 through 2016, as well as one of “Texas Super Doctors” by Texas Monthly magazine from 2015 to present.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system.
