Why do females stress more than males?
This explanation can be found in 3 different domains: sociocultural, neurochemical, and hormonal. Women carry the emotional burden of society, the family, and relationships. This creates significant stress not carried by the male. Women are also emotional beings (typically); while men are cognitive beings (problem solvers). Men typically lack emotional intelligence. Women's hormones are oriented to child bearing; and these hormones fluctuate throughout a woman's life from age 12-50, causing changes in brain chemistry, mood, and stress levels. All of these variables contribute to the observation that women stress more than men. But, just because women stress more, this does not make them less healthy. It can make them stronger, as well.
