  • What is good for hip impingement?

It depends on the type of hip impingement you have. A general rule of thumb we give our athletes/patients that have any sort of hip impingement is to make sure we have access to as much range of motion pain free as possible. We instruct our athletes in particular that when trying to do a specific movement if it cause pain, to try a similar movement and see if there is less or no pain. Some times we need to remind the brain that the movement is ok and that there is no damage being done and we are not in danger to hurt ourselves. A good routine for hip mobility and strengthening will help with most types of impingement. There are many videos out there that are available to watch that would be good starters for mobility of your hip. Banded distraction, which is stepping through a loop band and having the band contact around your inner thigh and hip and then lunging away from where it is anchored, is a great way to access certain aspects of your range of motion pain free. • Can chiropractic adjustment heal a sports injury?

Chiropractic in its essence cannot heal anything. Nor can any other medicine. What we do as chiropractors is remove obstacles so that your body can heal the way it was designed to do. We help it out by making sure the joints and muscles and other soft tissue around the region of the injury are first and foremost not continuing to be damaged or in danger of being damaged. Which is why some times patients are instructed to wear a boot for an ankle sprain. We then treat the area to get you out of pain, and once out of pain we rehab the injury so that you become more resilient to that injury. This involves a lot of soft tissue, and rehab (which looks a lot like physical therapy). For sports specific injuries your best bet is seeing what is called a C.C.S.P. (Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician) who has taken extra training to be able to diagnose and treat sports injuries. Better than that is to look at their involvement with sports in the area you are in. Are they working with local athletes? Do they work with any high level teams? Have they done a rotation at the Olympic Training Center? Answering these question will make sure you are in the right place. READ MORE
