I burned my hand with boiling water, and now there is a scar. What should I do?
Sorry to hear of your unfortunate accident. A history and physical exam is key by a plastic/hand surgeon who specializes in burns. It looks like you have a contracture of the hand/digits that likely is full thickness compromising movement. You may need a release by either Z-plasty or reconstruction utilizing artificial skin/full-thickness skin graft or a flap after excision of the scar. Goal is to provide function and fine motor dexterity with preservation of sensation. Hope this helps. Shaher KHAN, MD Board Certified Plastic Surgeon READ MORE
