Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Yadira Garcia, who serves patients in Fort Madison, Iowa.

The clinical interests of Dr. Garcia, a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist, are minimally invasive surgical procedures and infertility. She sees patients at The Women’s Center of Fort Madison Community Hospital in Iowa.

A wide array of services are available in The Women’s Center to benefit a woman throughout her life cycle. In addition to common services such as annual exams, these physicians treat pelvic pain, premenstrual syndrome, menopause, cervical dysplasia, pregnancy, and other common gynecologic and obstetric conditions. For women who are expecting, The Women’s Center, in cooperation with The BirthPlace at Fort Madison Community Hospital, provides the educational Mother’s Manual along with comprehensive prenatal education classes.

From a young age, Dr. Garcia knew that she wanted to pursue a career in health care. “I felt a calling to medicine since high school because I loved the sciences. After reading Ben Carson’s book ‘Gifted Hands’, I not only knew I wanted to pursue a career in medicine but I also knew I wanted to pursue a surgical specialty. My number one driving force is service and compassion. I was given a special place as a healer to guide patients through one of the most vulnerable times of their life. The most rewarding aspect of healthcare is improving the quality of life of patients. I love the trust my patients place in me. Compassion is my biggest driving force.”

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Garcia graduated with her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in the West Indies. She completed her internship in general surgery at Maricopa Medical Center, followed by her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Medstar Franklin Square Medical Center.

Prior to her current endeavours, she practiced in Appleton, Wisconsin for three years. She worked as the attending physician at Aspirus OB/GYN Associates in Wausau, Wisconsin for one year prior to that.

Specializing in women’s health, Dr. Garcia is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

Obstetrics and Gynecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics and gynecology. An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, is a healthcare professional who specializes in female reproductive health.

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Garcia enjoys cooking, reading, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
