As a skilled orthodontist, Dr. Ko has been able to utilize his background and years of experience in both general dentistry and engineering to provide his patients with uniquely comprehensive and customized orthodontic care. He works alongside his wife – Dr. Anne J. Yoon, DDS, MS – at Tri-Valley Orthodontics in San Ramon, California.
Firm believers that two minds are greater than one, they started Tri-Valley Orthodontics as a small family-owned and operated orthodontics specialty practice dedicated to serving the families of the community with compassionate, doctor-delivered care. They work as a team to evaluate, diagnose, and treat each case to deliver the most comprehensive and individualized orthodontic care for each patient. Relationships with each of their patients is their priority, and they consider them as a part of their practice family for the long-term.
Born in South Korea and having grown up in the Bay Area, Dr. Ko graduated from Mills High School. He completed his Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering degrees from the U.C. Berkeley School of Engineering in 1999. He worked as an engineer in the Bay Area for several years before deciding to pursue a career in dentistry.
Graduating with his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2008, Dr. Ko practiced as a general dentist in Pennsylvania for several years. He ultimately decided to pursue a career in orthodontics and went on to complete his specialty certification, also from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.
“With my background in both engineering and dentistry, my practice has always been rooted in biomechanical principles and bone physiology – with a focus on treating the whole patient and not just the teeth, to achieve skeletal & dental harmony” expressed Dr. Ko.
Dedicated to utmost comfort and optimal oral health, he is board-certified through the American Board of Orthodontics. It is a non-profit professional association for orthodontists founded in 1929.

Both of their families reside nearby in Orinda and Pleasant Hill.
On a more personal note, Dr. Ko’s hobbies include nature photography, fishing, and generally being active outdoors.
