Dr. Belagaje is a board-certified neurologist who currently serves as the Director of Stroke Rehabilitation for the Marcus Stroke and Neuroscience Center at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. The Marcus Stroke and Neuroscience Center at Grady Memorial Hospital has been recognized as one of the nation’s leading stroke centers, providing comprehensive care for virtually all neurological conditions. Grady’s neurologists, vascular surgeons, and neurosurgeons work as a team to treat neurological conditions, no matter how acute. 

Additionally, Dr. Belagaje is also an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Belagaje’s clinical and research interests pertain to the mechanisms of post-stroke recovery and the use of technology, particularly TMS and stem cells to enhance recovery and rehabilitation interventions in the acute stroke period. He is the local PI on national stroke rehab trials and is involved as a co-investigator on other trials.

He is board-certified in both neurology and vascular neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.

To stay up to date in his field, Dr. Belagaje is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN). The AAN is a professional society representing over 36,000 neurologists and neuroscientists. Dr. Belagaje earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. He then went on to complete his residency in neurology at the University of Cincinnati, followed by his fellowship training in stroke and neuro-recovery at the same university. 

Dr. Belagaje has co-authored several book chapters and manuscripts, as well as has presented abstracts at multiple conferences. He has also served in a consultation capacity to industry in developing new technology for stroke rehabilitation. Dr. Belagaje maintains an interest in health policy issues particularly related to stroke, neuro-rehabilitation, and neurology. He has served as a representative in the AAN’s Neurology on the Hill program and has received training through the AAN’s Palatucci Advocacy Leadership program. He hopes to remain an advocacy leader within the specialty on such issues in the future. 

Neurosurgery, or neurological surgery, is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles of patients. They examine a patient’s mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient.
