  • Is an acupuncture treatment painful?

Acupuncture is performed using hair-thin needles (the diameter of a cat's whisker), only 1/10 the thickness of hypodermic needles, so, treatments are relatively painless. The majority of people experience no pain upon the insertion of needles. A small population may feel a slight pricking sensation, or you may also experience a dull, achy or itchy sensation. Some people feel an increase in stimulation to a specific area. A relaxed, euphoric feeling commonly accompanies deep relaxation and sleep. This is normal and is caused by energy flow changes. • Should I drink water after acupuncture?

This is for two reasons: 1) It's important to stay hydrated after acupuncture because it can cause toxins to be released into your system. Staying appropriately hydrated helps flush out these toxins. Since alcohol and coffee both cause dehydrating effects on the body, they should be avoided after acupuncture. READ MORE

  • How does acupuncture lower stress?

Electronic acupuncture blocks the chronic, stress-induced elevations of the HPA axis hormones and the sympathetic NPY pathway.. Our growing body of evidence points to acupuncture’s protective effect against the stress response. Researchers have discovered that stress hormones were lower in rats that had received electronic acupuncture. Results were published in the Journal of Endocrinology. Researchers discovered that the electronic acupuncture blocks the chronic, stress-induced elevations of the HPA axis hormones and the sympathetic NPY pathway. Stress activates the Sympathetic Nervous System while acupuncture activates the opposing Parasympathetic Nervous System of the body which begins relaxation. It may reverse stress induced changes in biochemistry and behavior. Acupuncture blocks stress-induced elevations of sympathetic NPY pathway & HPA axis hormones by inserting fine painless needles at specific meridians of body. It affects actual changes in the brain to reduce stress and make long lasting changes. Acupuncture help to stimulate the body’s Nervous System and release neurochemical messenger molecules. This stimulation brings some biochemical changes that influence the homeostatic mechanisms of the body and promotes emotional & physical well being. Acupuncture decreases stress by releasing endorphins i.e. natural pain killer chemicals in the brain. This therapy improves blood circulation throughout the body and boosts the amount of oxygen in tissues. Some people experience a feeling of relaxation immediately after the insertion of the first needle. Most people describe their acupuncture experience as incredibly effective. Just a slight pinch of needle and they felt a sense of calm energy flow in the body. Some patients feel immediate stress reduction after a single session. READ MORE

  • Does acupuncture help with fertility?

Acupuncture can be helpful to support both female and male fertility by increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs, balancing hormones, reducing inflammation, and improving sleep and stress. Patients with unexplained infertility, high stress, or those seeking to improve their outcomes with ART (such as IVF) can also benefit from adding acupuncture to their care plan. Ideally, good to begin seeing the patient 3 - 4 months prior to conception/transfer so that we can help with egg quality, work on any cycle or lining irregularities, address any nutritional concerns, and help reduce stress. If you are going through IVF, FET or DET, acupuncture helps to prepare your body for your transfer. READ MORE

  • Is acupuncture a safe treatment for chronic pain?

“I think the benefit of acupuncture is clear, and the complications and potential adverse effects of acupuncture are low compared with medication,” says Dr. Lucy Chen, a board-certified anesthesiologist, specialist in pain medicine, and practicing acupuncturist at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital.“ Modern medicine generally emphasizes how acupuncture needles stimulate nerve and muscle cells, reducing the sensation of pain and releasing the body's natural painkillers, called endorphins. • Is it normal to feel worse after acupuncture?

It is important to eat two hours before the acupuncture treatment for balanced blood sugar levels. The treatment will set and hold better, and the patient is less likely to get dizzy or lightheaded after the treatment. While most people notice a marked improvement in their symptoms following acupuncture, some feel worse before they start feeling better. In natural medicine circles, this is sometimes referred to as a healing crisis. The idea is that as your body starts undergoing the changes involved in moving toward health, things get stirred up. This can cause not only an exacerbation of current symptoms but also the recurrence of previous ailments that had been dormant. READ MORE

  • Can acupuncture help with migraines?

There have been many controlled trials investigating the effectiveness of acupuncture as a treatment for Migraine attacks. The general consensus in research is that acupuncture is significantly better than no treatment or basic care when it comes to managing migraine attacks. As well as easing the pain of existing migraines, you can also use acupuncture to prevent them from returning; the technique can activate your parasympathetic nervous system and reduce muscle tension. Most people who suffer from migraines have a lot of muscle tension in the upper back and neck; clearly, releasing this tension is likely to reduce the number of migraines they get in the future.
