Get to know Acupuncturist Dr. Xuezhao Zhang, who practices in St. Louis, Missouri.

Recognized as a licensed acupuncturist & herbal medicine specialist, Dr. Zhang serves as the owner & operator of Authentic Oriental Healthcare Center, LLC in St. Louis, Missouri. Her practice specializes in pain management, women’s health including infertility and menopause. She also has special interest in emotional issues including stress, depression and anxiety, skin conditions, allergies, and more. She is utilizing acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine in a uniquely effective way.

Dedicated to offering the best holistic care, Dr. Zhang integrates acupuncture, herbs, acupressure, moxibustion, cupping, Guasha, massage, and other Chinese healing methods to successfully treat a wide range of diseases. Her unique approach draws on the ancient traditions of the East and the wisdom of science which views the body as a holistic integrated system with the ability to self heal when awareness is focused.

The doctor’s commitment and great passion for acupuncture and oriental medicine allows her to continually excel in the Chinese healing arts and enables her to help many people who seek better quality of life. She listens to the needs and concerns of each patient, and recognizes each patient as a whole. She finds the root cause of discomfort through a careful evaluation of a patient’s medical history, and selects appropriate treatment based on her diagnosis. With her successful work, she has earned the trust and confidence and referrals from many local physicians and her patients.

Back in 1986, Dr. Zhang obtained her Doctor of Oriental Medicine (OMD) degree from Guiyang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. She then went on to complete her Master of Acupuncture and Doctor of Acupuncture degrees at Guiyang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Hubei University of Chinese Medicine, respectively. Upon relocating to the United States, she completed over 8 years of neuroscience research at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

With over three decades of hospital and clinic experience in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, she is board-certified through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). The NCCAOM is a non-profit organization in the United States that aims to “establish, assess, and promote recognized standards of competence and safety in acupuncture and Oriental medicine for the protection and benefit of the public.”

Among her professional affiliations, Dr. Zhang is a member of American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, the Acupuncture Association of Missouri, the Acupuncture Committee in China, and the QiGong Committee in China. 

With years of experience in acupuncture-related clinical research and acupuncture-related laboratory research, she has published over 19 peer reviewed clinical and research articles in Chinese and English. She has also been awarded the Excellent PhD Thesis Award for Outstanding Achievement and the Excellent National Medicine Research Award in China, among others.

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine and a key component of Traditional Oriental Medicine. It is a technique in which thin needles are inserted into the body and in some cases, electro-stimulation is applied to gently stimulate particular regions of the body. Acupuncture is also used to maintain general health and well-being. Acupuncturists treat a variety of physical and psychological issues, such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, pain, digestive disorders, and infertility.
