A native of Southern California, Dr. Nelson attended Brigham Young University, where he graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in 1996. During his time at BYU, he took a two year break for a church service mission in France and Belgium. Thereafter, he returned to Southern California to attend dental school at the University of California, Los Angeles. He graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2001 as part of the honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He then went on to serve his residency in orthodontics and pediatric dentistry at UCLA, completing the program in 2004.
A Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Nelson is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Association of Pediatric Dentists, and the Texas Dental Association. He currently serves as President of the Board of the Dental Society of Southeast Texas.
As for his achievements, he has received several research presentation accolades and has had his research published in the prestigious American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.
