Acupuncturist

3343 Duke Street Alexandria VA, 22314

About

Matthew Stampe is an acupuncturist practicing in Alexandria, Va. at www.NovaAcu.com. He is also licensed in Washington D.C. and Maryland. Matthew evaluates and treats patients based on Intergrative medicine both with a western doctor's diagnosis and the concepts of oriental medicine. Acupuncturists complete their evaluations by gathering your chief complaint, asking up to 10 questions, and observing your tongue, and pulses at the wrist. Then, after evaluation and determining your pattern of imbalance, they place very fine acupuncture needles into specific points on the body. Stimulating these points and nerves is how Matthew Stampe treats the patients condition. Many of the bodys systems respond to acupuncture, and it can treat physical pain as well as emotional stress.

  • Combating Stress with Taiji (Tai Chi) and Qigong (Chi Kung)

If there is one take away to give you the reader, it would be to encourage you to return to breathing as you did as a baby. Our natural breathing originally was from our umbilicus area also known as the navel. In Oriental Medicine and the Chinese culture of Taiji and Qigong, this area is called "Dan...

  • What are the negative side effects of acupuncture?

Expect your treatment to have one of the possible effects: you feel nothing, or pain goes away, pain gets worse, maybe you feel effects hours later that are better or worse, or you may feel relaxed and well for a few days. There really are no negative side effects like a prescription medication might. However if you want to maximize your treatment eat healthy (Chinese diet therapy), herbs, and use moderate exercise in your lifestyle. Get plenty of rest, don’t stay up late smoking and/or drinking alcohol. Stay hydrated, keep your stress levels low, learn healthy habits like qigong, taijiquan, and meditation to strengthen your vital force.- Matt READ MORE

  • How many acupuncture sessions do you need for headaches?

Acupuncture will not cure a problem in one treatment. It really depends on the person, the nature of the headache (trauma, dehydrated, hungry, sinus, cluster, migraine, etc.), lifestyle, age, and what patterns the patient has. I typically will let a patient know their treatment plan may be acupuncture every three days for severe cases, once a week in mild cases, but it is really important to do several treatments to get a feel for improvement in symptoms and quality of life.-Matt READ MORE

  • Does acupuncture help with fertility?

Acupuncture can be an excellent addition to treatments you are using to help conceive. Fertility clinics and acupuncture may not have a 100% guarantee, but it has had some success in many cases. I can help you work with your doctor. I do have some experience with infertility couples and am sensitive to your needs. Sincerely, Matt READ MORE
