About

Dr. Yolanda J. Seliga is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine practicing in Park Ridge, IL at Healing Point Wellness Center. Dr. Seliga evaluates and treats patients based on the concepts of Oriental Medicine. Evaluations are completed through assessment of the patient's past health history and familial history, assessment of current symptoms and concerns, tongue and pulse diagnosis, as well as abdominal diagnosis and palpation. This all leads to a working diagnosis in which the practitioner selects specific acupoints on the body. Stimulating these points is how Dr. Seliga treats the patient's condition. Each treatment is individualized specifically to your needs and may include acupuncture or acupressure, herbal formulas, and Chinese adjunctive modalities, including cupping, guasha, and/or moxibustion, in order to bring you to optimal health and wellness.

  • Do you recommend acupuncture for neuropathy?

Hello and thank you for your question! Yes, try acupuncture for diabetic neuropathy! The sooner you come in, the better the results. Acupuncture will stimulate the area of neuropathy, which triggers your brain to increase circulation of blood and nutrients to the area, thereby improving sensation. Your acupuncturist may also use electrical-stimulation (or e-stim) to help optimize results. READ MORE

  • What is the success rate of acupuncture?

Hello & thank you for your question! Success rates are dependent on the patient seeking care: how long have you been experiencing headaches? How severe are the headaches? Are you willing to get a treatment once a week (which will eventually taper off when your condition improves)? Are you willing to modify lifestyle/diet based on your Chinese medical diagnosis? In my experience, the more involved the patient is in their healing process, the better their results (and the quicker they will see them too)! Also, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) - it has been proven via controlled trials that acupuncture is an effective treatment for headache. READ MORE

  • Where do acupuncture needles go for fertility?

Hello and thank you for your question! Needle placement varies from person to person based on the Chinese medical diagnosis which your Licensed Acupuncturist or Chinese Medical Physician will determine based on past history, current symptoms, and examination of the tongue and pulse. Points are located along specific channels in your body, and are located on the arms, legs, chest, abdomen, back, and head/face (more simply, across your entire body). You will more likely receive points on your arms and legs and abdomen, but again, based on your presentation, other points may be used. READ MORE

  • How often should I get acupuncture for migraines?

Hello and thank you for your question! The frequency of treatment is based on severity of symptoms as well as chronicity. Generally, I like to see migraine patients once a week, and then taper off treatments as the patient's condition improves. READ MORE

  • How many acupuncture sessions does it take to see results?

Hello and thank you for your question! Expected results are based on severity and chronicity of symptoms as well as frequency of treatments. A general rule is that an acute case will typically resolve in 4-6 treatments while a more chronic case should see improvement within 8-12 treatments. However, you should start seeing minor improvements fairly quickly. Again, this varies from person to person, and your acupuncturist will be able to give a general timeline after your first visit. • What should I do after acupuncture?

Hello and thank you for your question! After your treatment, you should keep hydrated and rest! Your acupuncturist should give you more tips following your treatment to allow for optimal results. READ MORE

  • Does acupuncture hurt the next day?

You may be experiencing a "healing crisis." This may be your body undergoing proper changes to move towards health. Acupuncture stimulates the body to self-heal and promote circulation of blood and nutrients, which may be uncomfortable for some who have been dealing with long-term pain or long-term symptoms. I would suggest reaching out to your acupuncturist with how you are feeling so that they may give you recommendations based on the treatment they performed. READ MORE

  • What should you not do before acupuncture?

Hello and thank you for your question! The day of you appointment, avoid brushing your tongue - the tongue is the only muscle that we can outwardly see, and it clues us into what in going on within the body, making it an important diagnostic tool. Scraping/brushing the tongue rids it of it's natural coat, which we want to see. Also, it would be best to avoid caffeine within an hour-two hours prior to treatment. Keep hydrated and relax! • How quickly does acupuncture work?

Hello and thank you for your question! You should see some immediate relief post treatment. However, this also depends on how long you have been experiencing the neck pain and how severe the pain is. You may need to have a few treatments to experience full resolution of pain. READ MORE

  • Is acupuncture for your neck safe?

Hello & thank you for your question! Acupuncture is great for neck pain, and yes it is safe! Licensed acupuncturists go through at least 3 years of schooling and have to pass at least 3 national board exams to be sure they are competent in performing Acupuncture. READ MORE
