  • Do all herniated discs need surgery?

The simple answer is no, not all herniated discs need surgery. It depends on the degree of herniation, compression on nerves and patient response to more conservative measures such as physiotherapy and injections. Herniated discs that are compressing elements of the spinal cord, and that show possible permanent damage, are often scheduled for surgery. Those that are just causing pain without compression on spinal nerves fall into an area that requires evaluation and expert opinion depending on the situation. READ MORE

  • Can you have sinus pain on just one side?

Yes you can. In fact, sinus pain on one side may be indicative of bacterial sinusitis. Bacterial sinusitis is the lest common form of sinusitis and actually requires antibiotic treatment as opposed to the usual sinusitis that is viral and not responsive to antibiotics. • If my mother has diabetes am I guaranteed to have it later in life?

The short answer is No. You can do many things to prevent diabetes in your younger years. Mainly, that means leading a healthy lifestyle and avoiding an over-abundance of sugar, carbohydrates and starches. I would also recommend that your exercise regularly and avoid sugary drinks. Doing these will dramatically reduce the risk of ever getting diabetes. It would be good, however, to understand which type of diabetes your mother has (type 1 or type II). READ MORE
