Will my depression go on its own?
It would depend on the cause. If you recently suffered from something like the loss of a family member or friend, the depression could go away on its own. If it has been several months or you cannot pin point a cause, seeking help from a professional would be recommended. I personally recommend doing therapy with a professional before considering medications, if possible. Regardless of the cause or length of time suffering from depression, seeking professional help can't hurt. Respectfully, Ashley Frantz, PhD READ MORE
Can depression be passed down?
No, depression cannot be passed down through genetics. A family history can predispose you to have depressive tendencies, but it is not genetic and cannot be passed down like a medical condition. Respectfully, Ashley Frantz, PhD READ MORE
Why do children chew on their fingers and hands?
Children go through a state of development referred to as the "oral stage of development." During this stage of development children often explore the world around them with their mouths. This is often why children place toys and such in their mouths. Children also tend to chew or suck on their hands and fingers when they are bored in order to obtain a level of sensory input or self-soothe. Respectfully, Ashley Frantz, PhD240-431-3714 READ MORE
What can I do for my child with suicidal thoughts?
If you believe that your daughter is a serious threat to herself or someone else, I would suggest hospitalization. If she is not posing a threat to hurt herself or someone else, I would speak to her about her medications. Have her counselor talk to her as well about the benefits of medication. Many people are afraid that medications will alter their mindset or it will be a permanent thing. Medications, especially for anxiety and depression, are meant to be temporary and can usually be stopped once the individual resolves their issues. If the medications are helping, but she is still refusing to take them, you can also try to put them in her drink or food. Respectfully, Ashley Frantz, PhD READ MORE
Mental health issues from date rape drugs?
I would find a therapist or counselor and speak to them about what you remember. Something from that night is bothering you so much that you cannot let go of the situation, even being aware that you were not sexually assaulted. I think a more accurate question for the time being is what can you do to feel less violated and protect yourself in the future. Good luck! READ MORE
