Get to know Neonatologist Dr. Spencer Magargal, who serves patients in California.

As a board-certified neonatologist, Dr. Magargal cares for the critically ill newborn and premature infants. He can be found on staff at East Bay Newborn Specialists in Oakland, California.

In his professional experience, Dr. Magargal is also affiliated with Walnut Creek Medical Center, which is a part of the John Muir Health network. 

Walnut Creek Medical Center is a 554-licensed bed hospital that is designated as the only trauma center for Contra Costa County and portions of Solano County. The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began when he graduated with his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency at Virginia Commonwealth University, followed by his fellowship at the University of California, San Diego. 

Before long, he became board-certified through the American Board of Pediatrics, which is an independent and nonprofit organization that was founded in 1933. It is one of the 24 certifying boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill, or premature newborn. It is a hospital-based specialty and is usually practiced in neonatal intensive care units. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects, as well as coordinating care and medically managing newborns born prematurely, critically ill, or in need of surgery. 

As evidenced by his research efforts, Dr. Magargal published research articles relating to diseases in marine species.
