Get to know Pharmacist Dr. Melad Nazamy, who serves patients in Buffalo, New York.

Dr. Nazamy is a pharmacist in practice with Jericho Road Community Health Center in Buffalo, New York. In addition to serving as a preceptor for new hires, he counsels doctors on medications that they may not be familiar with. Through the use of visual aids such as charts, he explains the different medications and how to use them.

Jericho Road Community Health Center is a culturally sensitive medical home, especially for refugee and low-income community members, facilitating wellness and self-sufficiency by addressing health, education, as well as economic and spiritual barriers. It provides holistic healthcare for the underserved and marginalized communities in Buffalo and across the world in order to demonstrate the unconditional love of Jesus.

Having always known that he wanted to be in healthcare and to give back to his community, Dr. Nazamy earned his Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from the D’Youville College School of Pharmacy in Buffalo. He attributes his success to his faith, his resilience, and the support and encouragement from his family.

Pharmacy is the health science that links medical science with chemistry and it is charged with the discovery, production, control, disposal, safe and effective use of drugs. The practice of pharmacy requires excellent knowledge of drugs, their mechanism of action, side effects, interactions, mobility, and toxicity. Pharmacists, also known as chemists or druggists, are health professionals who specialize in the use of medicines, as they deal with the composition, effects, mechanism of action, and proper and effective use of drugs.
