Hello! Thank you for your question. Recovery from liposuction alone is usually a much shorter process than when you combine that with an abdominoplasty. I usually tell my patient that you can expect to be sore for about one week with liposuction but most are able to return to work by week two. In regards to his educational background, Dr. Cusimano III completed his undergraduate education at Louisiana State University and earned his medical degree at the American University of the Caribbean. He then went on to complete his internship in general surgery and his residency in general surgery at the State University of New York at Buffalo. This was followed by an additional residency in general surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he served as chief resident, and a fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Tulane University in New Orleans.
The doctor not only had vast experience in autologous reconstruction but also had vast exposure to the newer techniques for implant-based reconstruction, including pre-pectoral and direct-to-implant reconstructions. He feels extremely lucky to bring this knowledge and skill back to where he grew up and be able to give breast cancer patients other options for breast reconstruction.
He is a member of a number of professional affiliations, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the American Society of Plastic Surgery. He has also been serving as an Associate Professor at Louisiana State University and at Tulane University since 2018.
With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, Dr. Cusimano III is board-certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The mission of the ABPS is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination, certification, and continuous certification of plastic surgeons as specialists and subspecialists.
