  • Do gum line fillings hurt?

Whether or not a “gum line filling” hurts is dependent upon the depth of the restoration. As a rule, “No,” they should not hurt. You will be numbed with a local anesthetic prior to the filling being done. You should not feel anything at all when the filling is done. After the filling is complete, once the local anesthetic has worn off, if there is any pain at all you should contact your dentist. There are times, if the decay is very deep and close to the pulp of the tooth, that the tooth can hurt. Again, you should contact your dentist as soon as possible if there is any discomfort in the tooth. Dr. Susan A. Hockaday, DDS, PA READ MORE
