Dr. Mateen completed her undergraduate degree at Ramapo College of New Jersey. She then went on to earn her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. 

At present, she is a third-year resident (PGY-3) at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Namely, she is involved in the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program with added credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery.

Temple University Hospital is a 721-bed, Level 1 trauma center that supports 18 other residency programs, 11 fellowship programs, and over 500 general medical and surgery residents. Podiatric surgical residents at the hospital are expected to fulfill their academic duties bi-weekly at academic rounds. Some of these duties include case presentations, academic presentations, journal club, radiology rounds, and attendance at various hands-on workshops. Also, residents are expected to lecture to the third and fourth year students of the surgery clinic of the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. on a weekly basis. Residents may also be asked to lecture for various topics for classes taken by third year podiatric medical students.
