She also teaches seminars in holistic medicine and is a Senior Attending Physician at both Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Brotman Medical Center.
Prior to her current endeavors, she served as Director of the Outpatient Ambulatory Care Program at the Medical Group of Beverly Hills for the Resident Training Program of Internal Medicine of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and as Co-Owner of the Medical Group of Culver City.
After earning her medical degree from Lady Hardinge Medical College at Delhi University en India in 1976, Dr. Kumar went on to receive her diploma in Clinical Pathology from Meerut University. Upon relocating to the United States, she finished her residency in internal medicine at Case Western MetroHealth Medical Center. Additionally, she completed a pulmonary disease and critical care medicine fellowship at the University Of Cincinnati/University Hospital.
An active member of the American Medical Association and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Among her research efforts, Dr. Kumar acted as a Principal Investigator in CIRT, a study on reducing inflammation and lowering the risk of having a second heart attack, a stroke, or dying of heart disease, a position she assumed from 2013 until 2016.
Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
For her accomplishments and participation in public speaking, Dr. Kumar received the UCLA Clinical Faculty Member Recognition for Associate Clinical Professorship in the Department of Medicine, America’s Top Physician Award by the Consumers’ Research Council of America in 2008, Great Women of the 21st Century Award by the American Biographical Institute in 2004, and Physician of the Year Award by The National Republican Congressional Committee’s Physician Advisory Board in 2003, among others.
Attributing her success to her family of physicians, family support, and a passion for her profession, Dr. Kumar’s favorite professional publications include the Annals of Internal Medicine and the New England Journal of Medicine. Outside of practicing medicine, she enjoys listening to music and studying holistic medicine.
