Alongside his clinical role, Dr. Knezevic has also been serving as a Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology and Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has an extensive research history and is always willing to extend his knowledge. Dr. Knezevic published more than 130 manuscripts in prestigious medical journals. His work was cited more than 3000 times, and his citation index (h index) is 27. Dr. Knezevic has a leading role in many anesthesia and pain management committees.  

With extensive expertise in basic and clinical research, Dr. Knezevic is an irreplaceable member of translational grants reviewing committees and IRB boards. At present, he is managing several clinical trials (phases I-IV) and testing different pain medications and medical devices for acute and chronic pain at Chicago Anesthesia Pain Specialists.

In regard to his educational background, Dr. Knezevic earned his medical degree and his Doctorate (PhD) degree in Clinical Pharmacology from the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Medicine, in Serbia. Upon relocating to the United States, he completed his training at the University of Illinois at Chicago and joined the anesthesia team at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in April of 2009.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, anesthesiologists also measure the patient’s respiration.

An authority in his field, Dr. Knezevic is a recognized lecturer in many national and international conferences with multiple awards for outstanding achievements. The American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians Awards Committee presented him with the Academic Achievement Award for his dedication to interventional pain management through teaching, mentoring, and research twice in 2016 and 2019.
