  • Can u sleep in your partial dentures?

I guess the question is really not "Can you sleep in your partials", but "Should you sleep in your partials?". And the answer would be no. You shouldn't sleep in your partials. Your gum tissues under your partials need to be able to get "air". Leaving your partials in over night can lead to a yeast infection under the partial, inflammation due to debris and bacteria being trapped under them, and can also sometimes be a choking hazard. As a dentist, I can always immediately tell when my patient's are sleeping in their partials because their mouth will have an area of inflamed red gum tissue that is the perfect match to the shape of their partial denture. • Does it hurt getting a crown on an implant?

Communication is key. Be sure to communicate how you are doing throughout your treatment to your dentist. You should be very comfortable during your procedure. I ask my patient's to raise their left hand if they need me to stop for any reason whether that be they have a question, are feeling something uncomfortable, have to use the facilities or just need a little break. Crown and Implant procedures are typically very comfortable procedures. Good luck! READ MORE

  • Should I keep brushing bleeding gums?

Absolutely. Your gums bleed because of inflammation usually caused by bacteria. This bacteria eats the food particles left on your teeth after brushing. The cleaner you keep your gums the less your gums will bleed. In addition, if you are overdue for your professional hygiene cleaning, it may be time to get caught up with that as well. READ MORE

  • Can I get a bridge for my front teeth?

Bridges are possible in the anterior teeth area, however many factors exist that can make a bridge, not the best or most esthetic option. Other options for replacing teeth are implants, partial dentures, or even a complete denture in some cases. Set up a time when you can sit down with your dentist and discuss all of the options and the pros and cons of each. And even get a second or third opinion if you want. READ MORE

  • Should I avoid certain foods with a crown?

Sticky foods such as taffy and caramels can pull off crowns. However, if your crown should come uncemented, put the crown in an envelope and go to your dentist. They can usually be recemented. However, time is imperative and so do not wait even several days to have it recemented back READ MORE

  • Do you get anesthesia when getting braces?

Anesthesia is not necessary for most orthodontic care. READ MORE

  • Do veneers affect gums?

Veneers will affect your gums in the same way that dental crowns may affect your gums. You must keep the area clean at the junction of the veneer and the gums. Plaque and food may tend to stick in this area causing gum irritation and you will be prone to cavities in this area as well. Sometimes some of the gum tissue may be removed in order to improve the looks of the veneers. This is called a gingivectomy or gingivoplasty. READ MORE

  • Which toothpaste is good for veneers?

Any toothpaste approved by the ADA is good. Stay away from overly abrasive toothpastes in general. Look for the ADA seal of approval. As long as you see the seal and the toothpaste has fluoride, the rest is personal preference. READ MORE

  • Is getting veneers painful?

It's important to communicate with your dentist. If you are experiencing discomfort during a procedure, usually additional anesthesia can be given. Most dental procedures should not be painful, and that includes veneer procedures. READ MORE

  • How long does the pain last after oral cyst surgery?

The variables with your specific situation would really affect how long you will be in discomfort. The size of the cyst, location, your ability to handle discomfort, the doctors expertise and experience, patient's overall health, and age are just a few of these variables. These all will play a role in recovery times. READ MORE

  • What can I take for root canal pain?

If you can take over the counter Motrin or Ibuprofen, those tend to give good pain relief after a root canal therapy. Ibuprofen acts as both a pain reliever and also an anti-inflammatory. READ MORE

  • Can a tooth get infected under a bridge?

Yes, a tooth under a bridge or crown can abscess and be infected. Options are usually a root canal therapy or have the tooth extracted. READ MORE

  • Do I need a root canal to get a crown?

No. Root canal therapy is not necessary for a crown restoration. However, these two procedures do tend to go hand in hand often times. A tooth that needs a crown usually has had a lot of trauma (fractured, large fillings, combinations of these), and this often leads to the nerve of the tooth eventually dying or starting to die. This would then necessitate a root canal therapy. So, in summary, not a requirement to have a root canal therapy prior to having a crown placed, but also not uncommon. READ MORE

  • Is a CT scan required before dental implants?

It isn't required however the more information that your dentist can have about your anatomy before a procedure, the better position every one is in for the best outcome possible. READ MORE

  • Tooth extraction?

I am sorry. I don't know what your question is. Can you be more specific? READ MORE

  • Is it okay to wait to start a root canal procedure?

Three weeks is ok to wait as you are starting antibiotics and this usually will keep the abscess under control for several weeks. READ MORE

  • Jaw bone infection?

I would suspect possibly a crack in the root canal tooth, a temporomandibular joint problem, or an infection in another tooth. It is very hard to pinpoint without a lot more information. READ MORE

  • Facial swelling?

I would recommend seeing an ophthalmologist. If you are not able to do this, then I would start a daily diary recording anything that comes in contact with your eye on that side. It could be a contact allergy. This could be from your detergent on your pillowcase, eye makeup, hand lotion that you may rub your eye with, hand sanitizer, and so many things. If it is itchy that could also be a sign of a contact allergy. Dental issues CAN cause the eye to swell. But you said that you have had your dental issues taken care of. However, since this has been happening for a while I would take this seriously. You need to get this seen by a professional because if it is related to an infection, it is life-threatening if it spreads into your bloodstream or to your brain. The daily diary that you do will be helpful to your physician as well so bring that with you. I urge you to at least go to an urgent care facility or maybe even a county health department at least. Good luck and stay well. READ MORE

  • What can the dentist do about sensitive teeth?

Sensitive teeth can be caused by a variety of things, including dental cavities, periodontal disease and root exposure, fractures in the teeth, superabrasive toothpastes, and even acidic foods. In my office, one of the most common causes of tooth sensitivity especially to cold is clenching and grinding. This action causes microcracks in the enamel of your teeth. When you eat or drink these cracks allow the temperature changes to be felt more easily by the dental nerve. Most often when the clenching and grinding is treated, it not only will greatly increase the health of your TM Joint and help protect your teeth from further more severe fractures, but tooth sensitivity will also greatly improve. I utilize neuromodulators in my practice injected in the masseters and temporalis muscles to effectively weaken these muscles and thus weaken the ability to clench and grind (even when sleeping). • What's the shortest time you can have braces?

The time needed for orthodontic treatment is so variable and unique to each individual case. Invisalign has a great feature called "Invisalign Go!" that your dentist or orthodontist can use. By entering photos and dental clinical observations into a phone application, in a matter of minutes a general summary will be generating explaining whether treatment with Invisalign for your case will be easy, moderate, or advanced and will give an excellent guide for the dentist to estimate the amount of time and aligners your case would require. I hope this helps. READ MORE
