Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Marion M. Swall, who serves patients in Damariscotta, Maine. 

Dr. Swall is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon practicing at The Herbert & Roberta Watson Health Center. She views surgery as a “team sport” and enjoys the feeling that comes with helping people.

“I feel like I am the quarterback but that everyone in the operating room has an important role. I love working with my hands and being able to help people return to an active life” she stated.

Lincoln Medical Partners orthopaedic surgeons practice in the Herbert & Roberta Watson Health Center on the LincolnHealth – Miles Campus in Damariscotta, Maine. The Orthopaedic surgeons and clinical staff focus on the medical and surgical treatment of injuries, deformities, and diseases of the musculoskeletal system including bones, muscles, joints, tendons, and nerves.

With a broad educational background, she earned her undergraduate degree from the United States Air Force Academy, her graduate degree from Colorado State University, and her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

Her military career was impressive and included a stint as an orthopaedic surgeon working on some of the most difficult cases during war time in Afghanistan, earning her the Afghanistan Campaign Medal. Dr. Swall was also Chief of Orthopedic Surgery with the 81st Surgical Operations Squadron at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi.

Furthering her training, she completed her residency in orthopaedic surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2015. This was followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at Cincinnati Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in 2020.

With an unwavering commitment to her speciality, Dr. Swall is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Happily married, Dr. Swall and her husband reside in Walpole with their two school-aged children.
