Get to know Registered Medical Assistant, Ariel Words, who serves patients in Elkhart, Indiana.

Ariel, a registered medical assistant, is the Founder & Director of Stuck At Home, LLC in Elkhart, Indiana. Tending to families one home at a time, she serves as a mobile laboratory provider.

Graduating from Brown Mackie in September of 2014 with a Medical Assistant Diploma, Ariel began her medical career as a mobile phlebotomist with Beacon Home Ventures in October of 2014. There, she drove from nursing home to nursing home to draw blood, starting at 4 a.m. each morning. She was later recruited to do the Circle of Wellness Employee Health Screenings where she was responsible for correctly scheduling each patient, accurately taking biometric measurements, and preparing all labs with requisitions for a courier on a daily basis for about three months. The Lab Director in Laporte was so impressed with her organizational skills that she was later referred to work as a lab assistant in the 24-hour MedPoint and became a versatile piece, being able to work in the lab as well as in urgent care as a medical assistant.

Later on, Ariel left the Beacon family to join forces with St Joseph Family Medicine of Elm Road’s very own, Dr. Janet Galanes. Here, she was given the chance to explore the field in which she studied in. When given the chance to explore new information, she went back to Beacon Medical Group and was thoroughly trained to be a Scribe while in the float pool. The opportunity gave her a chance to work more directly with physicians than ever before as she was trained to think and order like one.

While returning to school to become a registered nurse, Ariel worked part-time as a triage nurse with South Bend Clinic. As life gave her a third pregnancy with twins, she was forced to slow down. Then, when she decided to come back into the workforce following her maternity leave, she was given an opportunity to work with the well-known Riley’s Children Hospital Outreach Clinic.

Following this, she left for an entry-level position in the business and management aspect of her field, learning how to sell Xfinity to perfect strangers in Walmart. She finished out her life of various employment experiences with her last job being a home health aide with Divine Interventions, INC before opening Stuck At Home, LLC.

A registered medical assistant (RMA) is a trained medical assistant who has formally been educated to become a medical assistant. Their typical duties include: performing administrative work (including scheduling appointments and lab tests, answering phones, and completing insurance forms), completing clinical tasks (including collecting specimens and changing dressings), preparing examination rooms for patients (including sterilizing instruments and removing contaminated waste), recording test results and vital signs, as well as interviewing patients, explaining treatment plans, and preparing patients for tests and procedures.
