Back in 1972, Dr. Tonzola graduated with his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He then went on to further his training with a residency in general surgery at University Hospital in 1976.
Currently a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), he is a member of the New Jersey Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, the New Jersey Medical Society of Union County, and the American Medical Association.
Furthermore, he is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
Prior to his current endeavours, Dr. Tonzola was the Chief of the Division of General and Laser Surgery & the Medical Director of Hospice and the Intensive Care Unit at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway. He also served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
