Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Dori Neill Cage, who serves patients in San Diego, California.

Dr. Cage is a board-certified orthopedic hand surgeon who specializes in caring for hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, and shoulder problems with nonoperative and surgical treatments.

In practice with San Diego Hand Specialists since 1993, she enjoys getting to know her patients and providing high quality care. She likes to stay active and enjoys helping her patients stay active in their lives.

Enjoying teaching, Dr. Cage mentors premedical, nursing, and PA students in the office. She speaks annually at the UCR Premedical conference and participates in teaching programs for residents. She has an active shadowing program for younger students interested in medicine, and is a supporter of Champions for Health.

In addition to her regular practice, she has a tradition of helping those in need. She has traveled to Belize, Mexico and Peru to teach and provide care. She has worked with the SDCMC Project Access Program since its early days, providing care for those who would otherwise not receive treatment. She also promotes youth fitness and sponsors the Grant Elementary School Jogathon and the Strive Cycling Team.

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Cage graduated with her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1986. She then went on to perform her internship in internal medicine at Northwestern University, her residency in orthopedic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, and her fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at the University of California, San Diego.

Caring for the hand and upper extremity, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and surgery of the hand by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

An active leader, Dr. Cage is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (FAAOS) and on the AAOS National Board of Counselors and the California Orthopedic Association Board. 

Among her other professional affiliations, she is an active member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the Ruth Jackson Society, the American Medical Association, the California Medical Association, the San Diego County Medical Society, the California Orthopedic Association, and the California Society of Industrial Medicine and Surgery.

Previously, Dr. Cage served as President and Board member for the San Diego Orthopedic Society – Western Orthopedic Association and as a Board member of the Arthritis Foundation – San Diego Chapter and Medical Committee for many years. The office continues to support the Arthritis Foundation with a team at the Jingle Bell Run/Walk annually.

Licensed to practice medicine in California, she is affiliated with Scripps Mercy Hospital and Sharp Memorial Hospital.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

On a more personal note, Dr. Cage loves traveling with her family. On weekends, she may be found on a paddle board or windsurfer. She also enjoys running, hiking, and backpacking. She is an avid reader and enjoys book club.
