  • Is a dislocated knee an emergency?

Yes, a dislocated knee is an emergency because you are at risk of injuring the popliteal artery, i.e., the artery that runs in the back of the knee. Aside from the severe pain, inability to walk, you may also have suffered a fracture of the femur (thigh bone), tibia, or fibula (the two bones in the leg). READ MORE

  • Which position is the best to stop bleeding from the nose?

Sitting upright while pinching the nose and breathing through your mouth. READ MORE

  • What will an ER do for asthma attacks?

The ER (or, more appropriately the ED, emergency department) will review your history of asthma, how severe it has been in the past, how often you have an asthma attack, if you are on medications and taking them, what makes you get an asthma attack, how often you have had to visit an ED within the last year. All within a short period of time. Your vital signs plus your oxygenation level, respiratory rate will be checked, followed by an examination and then treatment with nebulizer medicine, among others, to relieve the asthma attack depending on the severity. • Should I go to the hospital for a dislocated knee?

You should call 911. A dislocated knee is an emergency because of the risk of damage to the popliteal artery that runs the back of the knee, possible fracture, and pain control. READ MORE

  • How do I get immediate relief from shortness of breath?

That is a very broad question in terms of immediate relief. It depends on your history, and what the shortness of breath may be due to. If you are an Asthmatic for example, and you have a fair idea that the shortness of breath is due to your Asthma, the first step is to use your Asthma medication (inhaler or nebulizer medicine) and see how you respond after 1-2 treatments at home. Shortness of breath is a symptom with a very broad range of underlying reasons. If it is not as clear as the example provided above, call your physician or 911. READ MORE

  • Facial abscess?

Yes, you should go to the nearest ED (ER) immediately. It appears that the abscess is spreading. You will need to see a dental specialist in the ED. READ MORE
