Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Fernando Baez-Corujo, who serves patients in Puerto Rico.

A board-certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Baez-Corujo provides accurate and thorough care for patients suffering from digestive issues. He runs QualityGastro, a leading gastroenterology practice providing advanced care to patients throughout the metro and northeast Puerto Rico area. 

With two locations in Canóvanas and Trujillo Alto, QualityGastro offers state-of-the-art gastroenterological procedures, including flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, and endoscopy. These procedures help diagnose and manage conditions such as abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, colon cancer, colon polyps, irritable bowel syndrome, among others. The medical team has extensive experience in comprehensive gastroenterology care, offering in-depth analysis and evaluation to determine the cause of symptoms, followed by patient-centered care, tailored to the specific needs of each patient. 

Regarding his educational background, Dr. Baez-Corujo earned his medical degree from Ponce School of Medicine in 2011. He followed up by completing a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at the VA Medical Center in 2014 and 2017, respectively.

Licensed to practice medicine in Puerto Rico, he is affiliated with various medical venues, including Doctors’ Center Hospital San Juan and San Jorge Children’s Hospital.

Attributing his success to the empathy he has for his patients, Dr. Baez-Corujo is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American College of Physicians.

Furthermore, he is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.
