Is there an alternative to dentures?
When it comes to dentures, ask your dentist for options. There are different types of teeth ranging from standard acrylic teeth to ceramic teeth. Then there is gingival characterization or the denture borders. At the end of the day, the cost of the more cosmetic options may increase the cost of your prosthesis. The ideal treatment would be what they call an implant supported dental prosthesis that only covers the ridge and is fully fabricated by layered porcelain, oftentimes layered to a base high noble metal. This option per arch can range anywhere from $15,000-$40,000 depending on location and interim treatment options. READ MORE

Do dentures make your breath stink?
The dentures can retain plaque and bacteria just like teeth. It is important to clean your prosthesis daily as well as gently wiping your gums and doing a mouthrinse with a product like Listerine. Sometimes with an immediate denture after teeth have been extracted and while the tissues are healing, the mouth can have a strong scent. If this is the case then utilize a gentle rinse of 0.12% Chlorhexidine (prescribed by dentist) or warm salt water until tissue are fully healed. Avoid vigorously swishing. READ MORE

This is a hard question to answer. I would say that they all can work well as long as the remaining teeth are healthy and well maintained. Implant supported prosthetics will usually have the least amount of stress on the remaining natural dentition thereby likely being the best option. READ MORE

First you should be evaluated for periodontal disease and subgingival calculus. Once a hygienist have cleaned your teeth of calculus/tarter, you can floss/brush/rinse. How long do mini implants last?
There isn’t a straight answer to this since it is largely dependent on the individual and their parafunctional habits. For example if you clench or grind your teeth, it is likely that the implant fails sooner. In someone that does not have parafunctional habits and proper care and maintenance, a mini implant could last a lifetime. READ MORE
What is the cheapest way to replace a missing tooth?
No treatment at all is the cheapest. If you’d like a replacement tooth, a bridge or implant or partial denture are usually the options. A fiber bridge might be the cheapest option but not the most durable and it’s not always a good option. An implant often times ends up the most expensive on the front end but lasts the longest so the price balances out in the long run. READ MORE

Does tooth sensitivity to cold mean a cavity?
Not always. It could mean you have root exposure due to recession. It could mean you have excessive tooth wear due to a clenching or grinding habit. You could have small cracks in the teeth. If you have a new clenching habit or traumatic occlusion, this can lead to sensitivity. A recent tooth trauma like getting hit in the mouth can also cause tooth sensitivity in the short term. Please schedule an appointment with your family dentist to have it properly diagnosed as there are different treatment options to help with each of these scenarios. READ MORE
