Encouraged and inspired by the words of his grandfather, Dr. Escasena’s dream was to become a physician since he was a teenager. In order to pursue his dream and passion, and to gain exposure to different cultures, he decided to go to Autonomous University of Guadalajara. Throughout his life, Dr. Escasena has seen several of his very closest relatives suffer from incapacitating headaches. That is why during his years as a medical student, he found himself very attracted to the field of Neurology, specifically Headache Medicine. He found it very rewarding to help those individuals, who had lost quality of life due to headaches, regain control of their lives once again.
Dr. Escasena believes that each patient is unique, he will take the time to gather all the information needed to tailor your treatment plan to your needs. He wants to give each of his patients the hope to have a better quality of life headache-free by encouraging a healthy lifestyle taking into account the person as a whole.
After graduating from medical school he completed residency in Neurology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He then did a clinical fellowship in Headache Medicine at Mount Sinai Roosevelt Headache Institute and Adolescent Headache Center in New York City. He is the recipient of the 2014 American Headache Society (AHS) “Frontiers in Headache Research” Scholarship Award.

Dr. Escasena is an established Florida-based neurologist with over 14 years of experience in the field. He currently provides care at The Headache Wellness Center in Coral Gables, and Sunset Neurological Group in Miami.
He specializes in diagnosing and treating many kinds of headaches, including tension headaches, migraines, and cluster headaches, as well as occipital neuralgia and headaches caused by the overuse of medications. He recognizes that each case of pain is as unique as the patient, and takes the time to thoroughly understand the problem prior to launching into a treatment plan.
Encouraged and inspired by the words of his grandfather, Dr. Escasena dreamed of becoming a physician since he was a teenager. In order to pursue his dream and passion, and to gain exposure to different cultures, he decided to attend the Autonomous University of Guadalajara. During his years as a medical student, he was particularly attracted to neurology, and specifically headache medicine, due to having spent his life watching loved ones suffer from debilitating headaches. He made it his mission to study everything he could to help headache sufferers to feel like themselves again.
Upon graduating, he completed his residency in neurology at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York, followed by a clinical fellowship in headache medicine at Mount Sinai Roosevelt Headache Institute and Adolescent Headache Center. He was awarded the “Frontiers in Headache Research Scholarship” Award by the American Headache Society in 2014, and was the recipient of the Top Neurologist Award by America’s Best Doctors in 2021.
Continuously advancing his efforts, Dr. Escasena is an active member of the American Headache Society, the International Headache Society , and the American Academy of Neurology.
Professionally, he continues to be active in the headache medical community and is a frequent speaker at medical conferences. He co-authored a research paper “Headache and Dizziness: How to Differentiate Vestibular Migraine from Other Conditions”, published in the Current Pain and Headache Reports in 2015. He also collaborated with Dr. Adelene Jann on a research project “Onabotulinum toxin A for the treatment of new daily persistent headache: open label study.”
