Can high hemoglobin cause miscarriage?
Yes, unfortunately, polycythemia increases the risk of miscarriage and other pregnancy-related complications. READ MORE
How long does a bone marrow biopsy take?
The procedure itself shouldn't take more than 15 minutes, but this also depends on whether this is done in the outpatient clinic or in a procedural suite by interventional radiology. Also, the results may take a week or longer depending on the tests ordered on the specimen. READ MORE
What does high hemoglobin mean in a child?
There are many causes of high hemoglobin ranging from dehydration to low oxygen states to abnormal hemoglobin or bone marrow disorders. READ MORE
What is the cause of high platelet count?
There are many causes of elevated platelet count ranging from lab error to benign or transient causes like recent inflammation to malignant causes such as a myeloproliferative neoplasm. Speak with your primary care provider about potentially repeating the lab test and/or getting a referral to a specialist. READ MORE
Should you go to the emergency room for low hemoglobin?
Hemoglobin levels of 8.0 and below should be evaluated. If there is a sudden drop in your hemoglobin levels compared to your baseline, this should also be evaluated. If you have low hemoglobin and are actively bleeding and/or have signs and symptoms of anemia, this may warrant an emergency room visit. READ MORE
How long does it take to biopsy a lymph node?
This depends on the location of the lymph node and the type of biopsy. Excisional biopsies usually require general anesthesia and take much longer, but an outpatient ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirate or core biopsy should be much shorter ranging anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours including prep time. READ MORE

Hemoglobin levels?
This depends entirely on whether the cause of your anemia is entirely related to iron deficiency and whether or not you are continuing to lose blood/iron. READ MORE
What is the cause of low platelet count?
There are many potential causes of low platelets including the false appearance of having low platelets due to clumping of the specimen in the test tube. A formal workup needs to be performed to determine whether the low platelet count is real and if so, what the cause is to determine the next step in the plan. READ MORE
Should I go to ER for blood clot in arm?
Yes. READ MORE
How does sepsis get into the blood?
Yes, you should be hospitalized for sepsis. READ MORE
What is the fastest way to increase your iron levels?
The fastest way is with an intravenous iron infusion, but the safer, slower way is by taking up to 200mg of daily oral iron supplementation if your gut can tolerate it. You may need over-the-counter laxative support such as Miralax or Senna. READ MORE
How can you treat anemia?
There are many causes of anemia, the most common being iron deficiency. To treat the anemia, you must first find and address the underlying cause. READ MORE
Slight high MPV on CBC?
MPV is the size of the platelets. So long as the platelet count/remainder of your CBC is normal and you are clinically well, this minor lab abnormality alone is unlikely to be significant. READ MORE
How long for hemoglobin to return to normal range?
It is difficult to predict. Assuming a linear correction, if it took about 10 days to recover 0.5 points, then I assume it'll take another 100 days or so to fully resolve with oral supplementation alone. That said, the reality is rarely that simple. READ MORE
Blood test results?
This answer depends on which blood test was ordered. READ MORE
What happens if iron levels are too high?
Typical iron panels include a variety of different measurements whose combination of values (rather than an individual value) helps predict whether iron levels are truly high or low. Some levels can be elevated in the setting of inflammation and do not accurately reflect iron. You should definitely discuss your abnormal lab levels with a doctor who can accurately interpret your results and determine whether further work-up is needed. READ MORE
