A well-versed pain management specialist, Dr. Burkhead has been in practice in Las Vegas since 1999 and opened Innovative Pain Care Center in 2001.
Innovative Pain Care Center was founded with the goal of providing quality care to persons in Las Vegas and the surrounding communities who are afflicted with acute or chronic pain.
With two locations in Las Vegas and one in Henderson, Nevada, the Center was designed to deliver treatment to pain patients in a caring and compassionate manner, with an understanding of how chronic pain can affect numerous facets of an individual’s life. The staff strives to be courteous and friendly, and welcome patients with a variety of painful disorders and conditions.
An active researcher, Dr. Burkhead is currently the principal investigator for several clinical studies involving chronic pain. He serves on the Board of Managers for the Innovative Procedural & Surgical Center, and is an active participant in DEA programs designed to curtail the prescription drug abuse problem in America.
As a prestigious member of a number of professional organizations, he is affiliated with the American Medical Association, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Association for the Study of Pain, the Nevada State Society of Anesthesiologists, the Nevada State Medical Association, the North American Spine Society, the International Spine Intervention Society, the Clark County Medical Society, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and the Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Association of America.
With a broad educational background, Dr. Burkhead earned his Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, in Biology and Psychology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He continued his training with an internship and residency in anesthesiology at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. He then went on to a postgraduate fellowship in pain management at the University of Washington Pain Center in Seattle.
Licensed to practice medicine in Nevada, the doctor is board-certified in pain management and anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.
