Get to know Family Physician Dr. Ulises M. Bonilla Burgos, who serves patients in Mercedes, Texas.

A trusted family physician, Dr. Burgos joined RGV Adult & Geriatric Medicine Specialists in August of 2016.

RGV Adult & Geriatric Medicine Specialists along with the Mercedes Children’s Clinic is composed of a dynamic group of physicians servicing the Mid-Valley area. With three clinics in Weslaco and a fourth clinic dedicated to pediatric care in Mercedes, it offers convenient healthcare to meet the needs of the community served.

“We treat all patients, families and employees with dignity and respect. We value teamwork and embrace the ever present challenge of promoting health, disease prevention, improving function and quality of life” according to the mission of the practice. 

Born and raised in La Vega, Dominican Republic, Dr. Burgos completed medical school at Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in Santiago de los Caballeros, earning his degree in 2005.

After graduation, he did his specialty in family medicine at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, affiliated with the Icahn School of Medicine of Mount Sinai in the Bronx, New York. During his residency, he was designated with the prestigious honor of being Chief Resident in his program.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in family medicine through the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.

On a more personal note, Dr. Burgos is married to his beloved wife, Leidy Laura Abreu, MD. They are proud parents of their daughters, Alina and Laura.
