  • What is the best pain reliever after a root canal?

It is always best to call and talk to your healthcare provider about which medications are best for you, given your health history and which medications you are allowed to take. Typically, after a root canal it is best to alternate between Ibuprofen (advil, motrin, etc) and Acetaminophen (Tylenol). All current research shows that this combination works just as well, and typically better, than even opioid analgesics. After I perform root canal treatment on a patient, we recommend alternating between Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen every 6 hours, without going over the daily limits of each. This is assuming the patient has no contraindications to either of these drugs and again, it is always best to check with your dentist/physician before taking any medications. READ MORE

  • How to cure canker sore on tonsils asap?

It is best to see an oral healthcare provider to examine this and determine what is the cause of the canker sores and the best way to treat them. They are likely just canker sores and gargling with warm salt water rinses can help but this can also potentially be something more serious, so it is always best to see an oral healthcare provider for an evaluation and treatment. There is a prescription mouth rinse called Peridex which can really help with mouth sores. READ MORE

  • Is a bone graft always needed for an implant?

  • Does vinegar remove tartar from teeth?

Yes, the acetic acid in vinegar is a natural way to remove tartar. Be sure to rinse with copious amounts of water and even brush afterwards, as any form of acid is bad for your teeth if it stays on too long. READ MORE

  • How can I ease the pain of tooth extraction?

If Ibuprofen is not contraindicated by your health conditions, it has been proven to be the best form of pain relief in regard to oral pain. Alternating ibuprofen and acetaminophen is a great pharmacological regiment for post operative oral pain. Always consult with your doctor before taking any medications and be sure to consult with your provider as there may be another issue with the tooth extraction such as dry socket which will likely not be remedied with any form of oral analgesic.
