Attending Bob Jones University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in pre-medicine, Dr. Wilkerson earned his medical degree from The University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at University of California, Davis in Sacramento, California. Finally, he completed specialized training in the treatment of ear and lateral skull base conditions through an otology and neurotology fellowship at Michigan Ear Institute.

After completing his fellowship, Dr. Wilkerson served as one of two neurotologists in the United States Air Force at the San Antonio Military Medical Center and the Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. In his time in the military, he helped to manage the ear and lateral skull base care of our active duty servicemen and women and their families.

Currently, he can be found on staff at Ascension Providence Hospital – Southfield Campus and Beaumont Hospital – Royal Oak.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, he is board-certified in otolaryngology and neurotology by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, which serves the public by ensuring that diplomates meet the standards of training, knowledge, and professionalism through initial and continuing certification.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Wilkerson is engaged in research and education of residents and fellows. He has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and several book chapters in the fields of Otology and Neurotology. His research interests include the management of blast induced hearing loss and tinnitus, cochlear implantation in the elderly, and hearing regeneration methods.

Otolaryngology is the oldest medical specialty in the United States. Otolaryngologists, also known as ear, nose, and throat doctors, specialize in disorders of the head and neck, ranging from hearing loss to cancer.

Among his most notable achievements, Dr. Wilkerson has been the recipient of the Humanitarian Efforts Committee Service Award by the American Academy of Otolaryngology (2017), the Gold Humanism Honor Award by the University of California, Davis (2012), and the Dean’s Award by the University of South Carolina School of Medicine (2010).

On a more personal note, he is an avid woodworker and pen maker in addition to enjoying time in the Michigan outdoors. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife and their 5 children.
