Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Christopher D. Ackerman, who serves patients in Cumberland, Maryland.

A knowledgeable obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Ackerman is affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, campus in Western Maryland. His office is in the Medical Arts Center at UPMC-Western Maryland. His expertise lies in several key areas, including minimally invasive robotic surgery, complex/high risk obstetrics, complex OB/GYN surgery, and menopause management.

Before embarking on his professional journey, he completed his undergraduate studies at Frostburg State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2011. Building upon this foundation, he pursued further education at Midwestern University, obtaining a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences in 2013. Driven by a passion for women’s health, he continued his medical journey at VCOM, Carolinas, where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2017.

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOOG), the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics & gynecology by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) who specialize in the care of the female reproductive tract and children during the course of pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period (obstetricians) and to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive tract (gynecologists).

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, cervix, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).
