    Although prostate cancer would be uncommon in someone in their thirties, an abnormal exam may prompt a PSA blood test. This should always be interpreted by an experienced urologist as subtle changes in someone <50 years of age may not be appreciated by a PCP. If there was concern for a condition such as a UTI or prostatitis, then the PSA would be falsely elevated and therefore one should wait before rechecking. After an acute episode of prostatitis for instance, the PSA may not return to baseline for 4-6 weeks.
