Get to know Hospitalist Dr. Raza M. Alvi, who serves patients in Springfield, Massachusetts.

A seasoned hospitalist, Dr. Alvi is affiliated with BMP Hospital Medicine, seeing patients at Baystate Medical Center, Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Baystate Noble Hospital, and Baystate Wing Hospital. He also serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the UMass Chan Medical School – Baystate.

BMP is a multi-specialty group that includes over 950 physicians and advanced practice clinicians in primary care, specialty and surgical disciplines who bring their expertise to patients at more than 100 practices across 85 locations.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Alvi graduated with his medical degree from the Ross University School of Medicine in 2011, and completed his residency in internal medicine at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in 2015. He then went on to complete his fellowship in advanced nuclear cardiology at the Yale-New Haven Hospital in 2017, followed by a fellowship in advanced cardiac imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2019.

In pursuit of clinical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Hospital medicine is a medical specialty that exists in some countries as a branch of internal or family medicine, dealing with the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients. The primary focus is caring for hospitalized patients and co-management with other specialties. Hospitalists take an active part in medical care and ensure a safe discharge for the patients they take care of. They are being increasingly involved in administrative roles, given their expertise and collaboration with various teams in the hospital.

An authority in his field, Dr. Alvi has been the recipient of the American College of Cardiology’s William W. Parmley Young Author Achievement Award (2020), Alavi-Mandell Publication Award by the Society of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging (2019), and Best Poster Presentation Award by the American College of Cardiology (2019).
