Get to know Internist and Geriatrician Dr. Nakeisha Rodgers, who serves patients in Tallahassee, Florida.

Dr. Rodgers is a double board-certified internist, geriatrician, best-selling author, and national speaker from the beautiful island of the Bahamas.

A creative at heart, she teaches key geriatric principles in a creative, simple format so that medical professionals can provide comprehensive, compassionate geriatric care the Dr. Nakeisha way.

She has over a decade of experience caring for hundreds of complex geriatric patients with multiple medical needs.

Having the pleasure and privilege of mentoring the next generation of brilliant minds, she is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Internal and Geriatric Medicine at the Florida State University College of Medicine.

After graduating as Salutatorian from her St. Augustine’s College high school alma mater in the Bahamas, Dr. Rodgers earned her Associate’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of the Bahamas, and then completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada.

She matriculated at the University of West Indies, Faculty of Medical Sciences, graduating with her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree in 2009. She later completed her residency in internal medicine at Bridgeport Hospital in 2013, followed by her fellowship in geriatrics at Harvard Medical School in 2014.

After landing her first job, Dr. Rodgers was promoted to lead outpatient physician in 2 years. She felt blessed because by all accounts, everything was going her way.

Then, in November  2020, she had a life-changing personal experience in her family. This experience reinforced the stark reality that many seniors do not have passionate caregivers and advocates who will guide them along the uncertain path of aging. More importantly, many medical professionals, albeit well intentioned, lack the tools to masterfully navigate the choppy sea of geriatrics.

Excelling in her field, she is board-certified in both internal medicine and geriatric medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

Geriatrics, or geriatric medicine, is a specialty that focuses on health care of elderly people. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults. Geriatricians are physicians who work primarily with the elderly. Although they address their patients’ multiple medical problems and chronic illnesses, geriatricians focus primarily on quality of life and functional ability. They determine when it is no longer medically safe for seniors to live alone and counsel them on alternative living arrangements, as well as counsel patients and families on end of life care.

Through her books, dynamic in-person and virtual workshops, and online educational resources, Dr. Rodgers equips medical professionals with the tools needed to help savvy seniors age like royalty.

To rejuvenate, she enjoys spending quality time with her parents and family, listening to music, dancing, and engaging in the creative arts. She is the daughter of two retired educators whose love for the classroom shaped her own passion for teaching.
