I am having a lot of pain all over my body post pregnancy. Should I go for some physical therapy?
Yes, I would specifically find a pelvic floor therapist over a general ortho. READ MORE
Is there any way to get relief from pain in my mid-back?
Middle of the back pain sounds like it could be from the thoracic/lumbar junction which is a common 'hinge' point for most folks who aren't regularly training. Essentially instead of using the vertebrae as segmental movements, we will hinge at that junction which then over-stresses the area and causes some symptoms; generally local to the area with a wrapping sensation on occasion that flares out to the sides/underarm. PT can help, generally improving extension patterns helps these kinds of folks in my clinic. READ MORE
Does physical therapy help in treating pins and needles pain?
Yes, physical therapy can definitely help with those kinds of symptoms. Sounds like it may be coming from the lower back potentially even and working on a general exercise plan can help alleviate the short term and prevent it from coming back in the long term. READ MORE
After a back surgery, when can I start with physical therapy?
Depending on the surgery I see folks anywhere from 1 day after to a couple of weeks. If you're having to lay up for 6wk+ I would be curious to know why; some surgeons are more conservative than others, but all the data these days support early activation and movement. READ MORE
Can physical therapy help with arthritis?
Yes, physical therapy is one of the top treatments for arthritis. It can help with tissue modeling and bringing 'feel good' compounds into the area for short term pain relief. It also helps to strengthen the muscles around those joints which can help to cushion, off-load and absorb shock with functional movements. READ MORE
scoliosis
No, your scoliosis won't get worse from bending down. General exercise is the best long term solution for most scoliotic postures, find a PT near you. Also, Usain Bolt has scoliosis and is one of, if not the, fastest runner in the world and doesn't seem to complain of pains, that can be you too; maybe not the fastest runner, but pain isn't required! Leg
It's possible that there was some nerve irritation at the time of surgery or even post-op swelling causing pressure against the nerves and decreasing their functions. It should be improving though with time and the more you use the affected limb things should start to feel better. If things persist longer than a couple of months I would definitely be following up with my surgeon; though you should have PT that can help you in the immediate short term to discern what's normal and what's not. Can lifting weights cause wear and tear?
No, anyone telling you that 'using your body' is going to cause 'wear and tear' is either misinformed themselves or is trying to sell you some kind of product; vitamin, ergonomic device or their own exercise plan. Exercise has been shown time and time again to have a protective effect on all systems of the body from cardiovascular gains, brain and cognition gains to stronger tendons and joints, etc. READ MORE
working out
You can go to the gym whenever you want, but if your chiropractor is treating you for a 'pelvic tilt' then I would leave their office and never look back since this is not a true issue. Research doesn't support pelvic tilts as a problem or have a correlation to pain, or that clinicians can even reliably palpate this difference. READ MORE
Can ankle sprain be fixed with exercises?
I try to avoid the use of the word "fix," but exercises can definitely be the best treatment option for a sprained ankle depending on the grade of the sprain and severity of symptoms. READ MORE
Is ankle sprain serious?
A sprained ankle can be serious, but generally if you're able to tolerate putting weight through it and walking then a progressive overloading program would be ideal. READ MORE
