Dr. Germanwala is a board-certified interventional cardiologist with Regional Clinics Cardiology in Longview, Texas.
Performing numerous procedures in the cardiac and vascular fields, he specializes in treatment of patients with peripheral vascular disease, including those suffering from critical limb ischemia and chronic total occlusions. He is also very involved in repairing abdominal aortic aneurysms and thoracic aortic aneurysms.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Germanwala graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and completed medical school at the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at Ohio University in 1995. He then went on to perform his residency in internal medicine and his fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology with Allegheny Health Network Medical Education Consortium (AGH) in 1999, 2002, and 2003, respectively.
A leader in his field, the doctor is board-certified in both internal medicine and interventional cardiology by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM). The AOBIM is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease in adults.
Dr. Germanwala was the first in East Texas to perform transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) surgery and the only interventional cardiologist trained in this specialty. He is also a medical faculty educator for TAVR and directs multiple national conferences.
Even with his busy practice, Dr. Germanwala remains very active in research trials, and recently has had papers and interviews published in the Journal of Invasive Cardiology and Endovascular Today.
Very active in training cardiac and vascular colleagues, he conducts numerous peripheral and CTO courses each year at Longview Regional Medical Center, where physicians throughout the United States come for instruction in the use of various catheters and new technology. He is very involved in the release of new devices that are FDA approved, and creating treatment pathways with various industry leaders, nationally and internationally.
Holding fellowship status, Dr. Germanwala is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI).
Interventional cardiology is a branch of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter based treatment of structural heart diseases. Interventional cardiologists are cardiology subspecialists who are trained to place stents in clogged arteries to allow blood to flow properly and reduce risk of stroke or heart attack, as well as to repair holes in the heart or place special devices in the heart to help it function properly.
Happily married, Dr. Germanwala’s wife, Gana Nadiga, MD, is an ophthalmologist. Together, they have a daughter and a son.
